Blog Spotlight: SiteCrafting Outed For Being Awesome

Dan Voelpel begs the following question in yesterday's Tacoma News Tribune: "If I asked you to name the most underrated business in Tacoma, what would you say?"

First on Voelpel's list was SiteCrafting. The article defined "underrated" by those local firms that are either well-known but who's contributions are deeper than at first glance or others, like us, who fly somewhat under the radar but do great business.

From the article:

What does a guy with a double major in theology and philosophy do? Start a small company that creates sophisticated Web applications. That's what Brian Forth did in 1998. Now, Sitecrafting has become the predominant ? and growing ? go-to Web development firm for more than 160 South Sound governments and companies. The long list of clients includes the City of Puyallup, Starbucks, Bellarmine Preparatory School and MultiCare Health System.

I guess the secret is now officially out. ;) Don't worry, we won't go and get swelled heads over this. Instead, we'll just keep serving our clients well and serving them up the most useful web apps anywhere.

Town of Seabrook Offers Unique Way to Celebrate Community

How does one capture the unique charm of a town designed so that public spaces, beaches and the town center are all about a five minute walk for its residents? Or showcase how there are more bicyclists and pedestrians than cars on the streets? Or celebrate the unique design and architecture of the town that's revitalized a location once taken "off the map" by the US Navy and Air Force during World War II?

Seabrook Town Founder and President, Casey Roloff, had the answer: by taking pictures. "Photography is a great way to capture the beauty and culture of any area, and I know it's a popular and enjoyable activity among Seabrook's residents," he stated. "I decided to work with SiteCrafting on brainstorming a unique and fun way to formalize this idea into something that would generate community involvement and celebrate what makes our town so special. SiteCrafting came up with a fantastic solution that's created a lot of interest from residents as well as people who are learning about the area."

SiteCrafting developed SeabrookPhotoChallenge.com, which manages the photo entry submission and display process as part of a Seabrook photography contest. The site allows contestants to upload pictures via a simple form which then resizes and displays them on the site automatically. Visitors can enjoy a slideshow view of all photo submissions, read details about the contest and prizes and sign up to receive information about the 2008 Seabrook calendar.

"The site requires minimal administration effort on our end, and its design and functionality make it fun and interesting for site visitors." said Casey. Well over 250 beautiful images are showcased on the site currently, which makes us at SiteCrafting glad we're not in charge of the contest judging.

What Is BetterThanFTP?
SiteCrafting is no stranger to the FTP management process. And that's largely what prompted the development of a point-and-click, web-based client file management and transfer solution we've (appropriately) named BetterThanFTP. Because it's a web-based application, it means:
  • No server setup or IT headaches. Users can sign up anytime.
  • No special software is required on your PC. All you need is a web browser
  • It's accessible from anywhere you have an Internet connection
It's also a very simple to manage application. It dynamically handles:
  • Date expirations for files
  • Version archiving when files are modified
  • User setup for your employees and clients
  • Auto email notification when files are ready
  • Admin controls that let you control who can view, modify and/or download files
SiteCrafting can work with any company's budget and scale functionality as needed. To learn more about BetterThanFTP, register for the Interact, or contact us at service@sitecrafting.com
